How We Work Around Kitchens And Bathroom With Original Features

There are many designer’s tricks to add character to a kitchen space, but how do we work around beams, pillars, slopes and other features that we normally love in our homes and want to keep?

Choosing a bespoke company with an in-house design and install team is without doubt the way forward. The ability to work with your designer to find a way to enhance some details and hide other – not so pretty – features in a way that you can live with can make the remodel project so much easier. A designer with a good design drawing programme can bring her ideas to life with a high definition image or ‘fly round’ that will allow you to see your kitchen when it’s done before a screwdriver is even picked up!

An experienced and conscientious installer can continue to improve and work with you to ensure your best structural features and maintained and enhanced, and you can enjoy them even more after their facelift.

The use of colour and textures are a key factor after the design. Be very careful which ‘wood coloured’ finish you might use. Compared to the real thing, they could look false. A plain colour works well, as in this bedroom. Alternatively, use a painted finish to emphasise  the difference between old and new, if you are bold in your choice of colour, this can look particularly attractive. Imagine a denim blue with a lovely old sanded oak beam, or a pale washed green alongside an inherited dark door architrave. As our Deane designers are also interiors experts, they can advise on colour choices confidently.

If you want to have the warmth and durability of wood and can’t justify the high cost, in the last couple of years wood effects have revolutionised. You could almost believe that what you touch is real wood, however, these surfaces and materials have flexibility and stability and are easy to work with and last for years, in addition to being more cost effective.

For both colour and materials, you can use one for your whole kitchen, or mix textures and colours – some 75% of modern kitchens have a combination.

Have a look at this recent kitchen project – it shows original features, new textured materials and smooth modern finishes, all combined to make a successful design that our clients love.
